Celebration! Aldo Di Toro and Stephanie Gooch in concert

In a sumptuous concert to open Art Song Perth’s 25th anniversary year much loved Perth born tenor Aldo Di Toro, soprano Stephanie Gooch, and pianist Marilyn Phillips will present a recital of works by Schumann, Strauss, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Puccini and others.

Aldo Di Toro graduated from the Western Australian Conservatorium of Music and made his debut in opera as Oronte in Alcina for West Australian Opera at the Festival of Perth. Now living in Italy and performing internationally, Aldo’s performances in 2014 include his company debut as Ernesto in Don Pasquale for Scottish Opera in Glasgow and Edinburgh, a return to State Opera of South Australia as Alfredo in La traviata and the role of Nemorino in L’elisird’amore with Opera Australia in Sydney. In 2015, he will make his role debut singing Riccardo in Unballo in maschera in Braunschweig. 

Stephanie Gooch graduated from the Australian Opera Studio with Honours, and has since been travelling between Australia and Germany to perform. In 2009 she won the More Than Opera German-Australian Opera Grant, resulting in her European debut at the HessischesStaatstheater Wiesbaden in 2010. Stephanie has performed widely in opera as well as on the concert platform. Recently, her repertoire has broadened to include musical theatre. In 2014 she performed the role of Christine in the ICW production of The Phantom of the Opera,with Aldo Di Toro as the Phantom.

Marilyn Phillips’ international career in music began in the Royal Academy of Music, where she was awarded the Ralph Vaughan Williams Scholarship for advanced studies in piano accompaniment. This prestigious start led to performances in the major London concert halls, Europe and the USA, with frequent BBC broadcasts.Marilyn has worked tirelessly to bring an understanding and love of music to a wider West Australian audience, most notably through her contribution to Art Song Perth, the hugely popular Big Sing in the Perth Concert Hall, and pre-concert talks for WASO.

Emerging artists Madeleine Joyce, mezzo-soprano,and Lachlann Lawton, baritone, will join in an evening of sparkling music and celebration.
