Ry Charleson

Ry Charleson is a young singer training as a baritone, tenor and countertenor at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts where he is in his third year of a Bacehelor of Music (Classical Performance). It was here that he won the Michelle Robinson Award for Voice, the most outstanding first year vocal student.

Ry specialises in the performance of Baroque repertoire from Handel to Bach, and the vocal music of the late Romantic and Early Modern periods. In 2014, he will appear in the countertenor role of Oberon in Benjamin Britten’s opera A Midsummer Night’s Dream at WAAPA.

He is also involved in many¬† Perth choirs, including the St. George’s Cathedral Choir and Consort, the Giovanni Consort, Lux et Veritas and recently the Summa Musica Chamber Choir. He aims to continue his postgraduate studies at WAAPA, before going to Melbourne and the UK to pursue a career as a soloist.
