She studied at the Royal Academy of Music, where she was awarded the Ralph Vaughan Williams Scholarship for advanced studies in piano accompaniment. As an accompanist she performed in the major London concert halls, Europe, and the USA, with frequent BBC radio and television broadcasts.

At the same time she continued and developed her interest in musical theatre, resulting in her appointment as vocal coach at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and became a musical director for the Royal Shakespeare Company, and the Royal National Theatre.
