Jill Sullivan
Mezzo-soprano

Jill commenced formal vocal studies after graduating in Medicine from the University of Tasmania. In 1996 she was awarded the Licentiate of Singing AMEB then studied with prominent vocal coaches in England and Germany. She has recently completed a Bachelor of Opera Studies from the University of Manchester. Principal roles have ranged from the soprano roles of Belinda, Euridice and Saffi, to the mezzo roles of Flora, Second Lady and Leila (Iolanthe).

Jill has performed as soloist with the major choral societies in Perth. In 2004 she interpreted the leading role of Iris, while also preparing the female chorus for performance of David Tunley’s choral work A Wedding Masque at the University of Western Australia.  In late 2014 Jill performed the alto solos in the Brahms Alto Rhapsody and Beethoven Mass in C for the Queensland Choir, to acclaim.

Jill was the vocal soloist for the soundtrack for the 1993 feature film Fade to White and has recorded also for VSO. A devotee of lieder and art song, Jill co-founded the Lieder Society of Western Australia (now Art Song Perth) in 1991 and continues to actively support that organisation.  Her recital repertoire includes Les nuits d'été (Berlioz), Zigeunerlieder (Brahms), Gypsy Songs (Dvořák), Rückert-Lieder (Mahler) and Wesendonck Lieder (Wagner).

In 2012-4 Jill appeared in chamber concerts and recitals in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.  She has been a member of the Opera Queensland chorus for the past five years, most recently in the Australian premiere of the Phillip Glass opera The Perfect American, and La traviata.

Jill continues in medical practice as a locum general practitioner.
